Ibanez's Premium models are in at Swee Lee. The standard top version depicted above (RG870) is $100 lesser than...
... the quilt top version (RG870QM). Both models come with a foam case which looks like this:
This is how the flip-side of the Premium headstock looks like; there's a clear indication of where it's made. The serial number is not seen here but it has no alphabet assigned to it.
Back at the manufacturer's homepage, the neck's dimensions are stated as comparable to the Prestige's Wizard make but having tried the Premium today, that claim is rather far fetched. The neck profile sports a Wizard II 'fat' feature; it's not slim. The neck edges are also not as smooth despite being cited as adequately rolled off. Some of us might be attracted to the Premium due to the manufacturer's claims but the accuracy of these statements could be re-considered.
The feel of the neck is indeed comparable to the Prestige; one could feel the extra processes taken to make it more appealing. If you are attracted to the Premium per se, it's down to the neck's feel. Do look closely, the headstock's flip-side is gloss finished.
The Premium pickups are rather likable if you are a distortion fan. Imagine the INF units but conceived to be a little more dynamic in both driven & clean applications but you'd appreciate them for the former.
Verdict: I find the Premium (RG870) likable but the highlight of its attributes could be more forthcoming. The neck isn't as slim as it's touted to be so if you are expecting some slim haven here, please re-calibrate your expectations. If you want one, be informed that Swee Lee is currently offering the RG870 in a limited number; one for each finish listed by the manufacturer (so a total of 5 guitars are available in store).
As for me, I prefer the RG920 instead- I don't need the middle single coil. But the model is not offered in this region. Please visit Swee Lee's homepage to know how much the RG870s are listing for.
PS: Thank you brothers Faizal & Adnan for the assistance.
